Arthur H. Ballet, 88, of San Francisco, Calif., died Monday, Jan. 30, 2012.

He was born in Hibbing in 1924, and was an Army veteran of World War II. He received his BS, MA and PhD from the University of Minnesota. He was an esteemed professor of theatre, University of Minnesota, from 1959 to 1985; director, Office for Advanced Drama Research; editor, 13 volumes of Playwrights for Tomorrow. He served as dramaturge at the Guthrie Theatre, Minneapolis and ACT, San Francisco, film/theatre critic, KSTP TV, and program director, Theatre, National Endowment for the Arts. He was also a Fullbright professor in Denmark.

Funeral: Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Adas Israel Cemetery, located on Howard Gnesen Road in Duluth.

Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home in Duluth.
